| Notes for Archibald PARTIN | ||||||||||
| "Archibald Partain, in the Confederate Soldiers Home, was born 15 Jan. 1803 in Montgomery Co., NC; in 1825 came to Wilson Co. and was postmaster at Lagardo in 1861; enlisted in the 17th Tenn. Rgmt.; shoemaker. During Andrew Jackson's time he had a sh e shop at Green Hill, two miles from Hermitage and made for a number of years the shoes and boots the General wore and the boots placed on jackson's feet when he was buried were made by Partain. He is 6 feet high and weighs 210 pounds. His father died in Wilson CO. in 1873 at the age of 110 years. 1840 Wilson Co., TN census lists males: 211001, fem. 110001. Note: There is a William Partin listed on the Montgomery County Personl Property Tax 1787, "List C." No while males between 16-21 were present, no slaves, no horses, and no cattle were recorded (The 1787 Census of Virginia, Vo. 1). | ||||||||||
